Remotype Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-07-05
Remotype (Android and iOS) is made by Custavia (https://custavia.com).
The short version
Remotype collects no data. None. Everything you type stays between your phone and your computer.
What Remotype does with your input
Remotype turns your phone into a keyboard and trackpad for your computer.
- On Android, keystrokes and pointer movements are sent directly to the computer you paired with over Bluetooth, using the standard Bluetooth keyboard/mouse (HID) protocol — exactly like a hardware Bluetooth keyboard.
- On iOS, keystrokes and pointer movements are sent directly to the Remotype Host app running on your own computer, over your **local Wi-Fi network**.
In both cases your input goes from your phone to your computer and nowhere else. Nothing is sent to Custavia or to any third party. Nothing is stored.
What Remotype does NOT do
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No accounts, sign-ins, or profiles
- No collection of personal information of any kind
- No tracking or advertising servers — your keystrokes and pointer moves never touch the internet. The app's only network activity is finding and talking to your own computer, plus confirming a purchase with the app store (see Purchases below)
Permissions the app asks for
- Bluetooth (Android) — required to act as a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse for your computer. Used for nothing else.
- Notifications (Android) — shows one persistent notification while the connection is active, so Android keeps it alive in the background.
- Local network (iOS) — required to find and connect to Remotype Host on your own Wi-Fi. Used for nothing else.
Settings stored on your device
Your preferences (pointer speed, dark-mode-related options, haptics, which computer you last connected to) are stored locally on your phone and never leave it. Uninstalling the app deletes them.
Purchases
Remotype's keyboard and trackpad are free. Some premium features are unlocked through an in-app purchase, which is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play — Remotype never sees your card, name, or billing details.
To confirm which features you've unlocked, the app may use a purchase-validation service (RevenueCat) that checks your entitlement with the store. It is used only to verify a purchase — it adds no advertising and no tracking, and collects no personal information beyond what the app store itself handles for the transaction. If you never buy anything, no purchase network calls are made.
Children
Remotype does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Since the app collects no data, any future change could only apply to future versions of the app.
